High trekking peaks in the Everest region of Nepal
The trek follows the standard route to Gokyo where we can ascend Gokyo Ri (5357m) for our first good views of Everest. We can also explore the Gokyo lakes, heading up the valley a little towards Cho Oyu (8153m). We then cross the 5368m Cho La, a high pass which leads to the Khumbu glacier from where we are able to make the ascent of Lobuche East (6090m). Once on the summit we will be rewarded with superb views of Everest and Nuptse. Our next objective after this is to ascend Kala Pattar (5545m) for the classic views of Everest and the Khumbu Icefall and also to make the a trip to Everest Basecamp itself.
We then cross the Khumbu glacier and cross the Kongma La pass from where we can make the ascent of Pokalde (5794m). Descending into the Imje Valley we can re-charge our batteries at the village of Chukung before trekking to the highest reaches of the Imje Valley. Our final climb is on Island Peak (6189m), one of the most famous trekking peaks in the region and rightly so since it is situated in a spectacular position immediately beneath the huge South Face of Lhotse.
